# powertracker

> powertracker.io is a live, public US map that places every known AI and hyperscaler data-center site on top of the electricity, economic, infrastructure, climate and political context around it. Every overlay is sourced from a named public feed and refreshed on a tracked cadence.

powertracker is built and maintained by [vxguo1](https://github.com/vxguo1). The full data pipeline, fetchers, refresh workflows and source registry are open source on GitHub. As of May 2026 the site tracks 144 AI / hyperscaler data-center sites across 36 US states: 108 operational / under-construction / announced sites plus 36 proposed sites still pending local-government approval (zoning vote, special-use permit, county-commission decision, state-regulator sign-off). The proposed bucket includes a growing set of celebrity-fronted mega-campuses (Kevin O'Leary, Rick Perry, Chamath Palihapitiya, David Rubenstein, Larry Fink, Hussain Sajwani, Eric Schmidt).

## Citable facts (May 2026)

- 144 known US AI / hyperscaler data-center sites are tracked across 36 states (46 operational, 52 under construction, 10 announced, 36 proposed and pending local-government approval); top concentrations are Texas (26), Virginia (12), Ohio (11), North Carolina (8), Oregon (8) and Arizona (7).
- The five largest operators by site count are Meta (20), Google (19), Microsoft (15), AWS (14) and CoreWeave (7).
- Sites with publicly disclosed megawatts sum to ~91 GW (across 51 sites that report MW): ~40 GW already operational, under construction, or fully announced, and ~51 GW proposed but still gated on local-government approval.
- Celebrity / high-profile-backer proposed campuses tracked: Kevin O'Leary (Stratos / O'Leary Digital, Snowville UT, 9 GW), Rick Perry (Fermi America "Project Matador", Texas Panhandle, 11 GW), Chamath Palihapitiya (Hassayampa Ranch / Arizona Land Consulting, Tonopah AZ, 1.5 GW), David Rubenstein (Carlyle, Fort Bliss TX, 3 GW), Larry Fink + Henry Kravis (CyrusOne, Dugway UT, 2 GW), Hussain Sajwani (DAMAC Edgnex, Edgerton KS, 860 MW), Eric Schmidt (Bolt Data & Energy + Texas Pacific Land, Pecos TX, 1 GW). - Electricity demand is read at Balancing Authority (BA) resolution because that is the smallest geography with public real-time load data in the US; there are ~66 BAs in the EIA Hourly Electric Grid Monitor.

- Climate: NOAA county temperature anomaly (vs 3-yr baseline), NOAA Storm Events outage uptick, per-site temperature.
