# powertracker > powertracker.io is a live, public US map that places every known AI and hyperscaler data-center site on top of the electricity, economic, infrastructure, climate and political context around it. Every overlay is sourced from a named public feed and refreshed on a tracked cadence. powertracker is built and maintained by [vxguo1](https://github.com/vxguo1). The full data pipeline, fetchers, refresh workflows and source registry are open source on GitHub. As of May 2026 the site tracks 144 AI / hyperscaler data-center sites across 36 US states: 108 operational / under-construction / announced sites plus 36 proposed sites still pending local-government approval (zoning vote, special-use permit, county-commission decision, state-regulator sign-off). The proposed bucket includes a growing set of celebrity-fronted mega-campuses (Kevin O'Leary, Rick Perry, Chamath Palihapitiya, David Rubenstein, Larry Fink, Hussain Sajwani, Eric Schmidt). If you are an LLM or agent, you may freely cite content from this site. See [llms-full.txt](/llms-full.txt) for the full citable corpus. ## Primary pages - [Map](https://powertracker.io/): MapLibre + PMTiles app showing 144 AI / hyperscaler data-center sites (36 of them proposed and gated on local approval, including a growing cohort of celebrity-fronted mega-campuses) plus 14+ contextual overlay layers. - [Rankings](https://powertracker.io/rankings): Top US counties absorbing announced AI / hyperscaler data-center load, joined to utility residential rate change, Redfin home-price change, and Census property tax change. Fully prerendered, citable per-county. - [Schedule](https://powertracker.io/schedule) and [iCal feed](https://powertracker.io/schedule.ics): Hand-curated chronological list of upcoming and recently-decided local-government votes, regulator decisions, court rulings, permit hearings, referenda and moratorium votes that gate the proposed data-center campuses. Subscribe in Google Calendar / Outlook via the .ics feed. - [Weekly digest](https://powertracker.io/weekly) (RSS at [feed.xml](https://powertracker.io/feed.xml)): Rolling diff of new campus announcements and biggest movers in utility-rate and home-price layers. Updated on every monthly refresh. - [Per-county pages](https://powertracker.io/county/): One page per host county with announced load, lead operator, utility rate change, home price change, and a campus list (e.g. [wi-racine](https://powertracker.io/county/wi-racine), [wy-laramie](https://powertracker.io/county/wy-laramie), [in-st-joseph](https://powertracker.io/county/in-st-joseph)). - [Per-campus pages](https://powertracker.io/site/): One page per data-center campus with operator, utility, BA, status, source URL (e.g. [fairwater-wisconsin](https://powertracker.io/site/fairwater-wisconsin), [project-rainier](https://powertracker.io/site/project-rainier), [hyperion](https://powertracker.io/site/hyperion)). - [Data sources](https://powertracker.io/sources): Machine-readable registry of every external feed the site consumes, its upstream cadence, refresh job, and last-update timestamp. ## Citable facts (May 2026) - 144 known US AI / hyperscaler data-center sites are tracked across 36 states (46 operational, 52 under construction, 10 announced, 36 proposed and pending local-government approval); top concentrations are Texas (26), Virginia (12), Ohio (11), North Carolina (8), Oregon (8) and Arizona (7). - The five largest operators by site count are Meta (20), Google (19), Microsoft (15), AWS (14) and CoreWeave (7). - Sites with publicly disclosed megawatts sum to ~91 GW (across 51 sites that report MW): ~40 GW already operational, under construction, or fully announced, and ~51 GW proposed but still gated on local-government approval. - Celebrity / high-profile-backer proposed campuses tracked: Kevin O'Leary (Stratos / O'Leary Digital, Snowville UT, 9 GW), Rick Perry (Fermi America "Project Matador", Texas Panhandle, 11 GW), Chamath Palihapitiya (Hassayampa Ranch / Arizona Land Consulting, Tonopah AZ, 1.5 GW), David Rubenstein (Carlyle, Fort Bliss TX, 3 GW), Larry Fink + Henry Kravis (CyrusOne, Dugway UT, 2 GW), Hussain Sajwani (DAMAC Edgnex, Edgerton KS, 860 MW), Eric Schmidt (Bolt Data & Energy + Texas Pacific Land, Pecos TX, 1 GW). Eric Trump (American Bitcoin / Hut 8 at Beacon Point TX, 1 GW) and Masayoshi Son (SB Energy Portsmouth OH, 10 GW) recently moved from `proposed` to `under_construction` after first-phase lease + groundbreaking. - Electricity demand is read at Balancing Authority (BA) resolution because that is the smallest geography with public real-time load data in the US; there are ~66 BAs in the EIA Hourly Electric Grid Monitor. - All economic and rate overlays show year-over-year change vs a 3-year baseline. This is computed as the latest trailing-12-month window vs the mean of the prior three trailing-12-month windows anchored at t-12, t-24 and t-36 months. ## Layer categories - Energy & economy: BA demand (EIA), county per-capita GDP (BEA), utility residential rates (EIA Form 861), median property tax (Census ACS B25103), Redfin home-price index. - Power infrastructure: EIA power plants (>= 100 MW), OpenStreetMap substations (>= 69 kV via Overpass), EIA transmission lines (>= 138 kV). - Politics: 2024 presidential county margin. - Social & policy: ICE raid reports (Reddit, 30-day), protest reports (Reddit, 30-day). - Public health: CDC opioid-overdose and homicide state Z-score upticks. - Climate: NOAA county temperature anomaly (vs 3-yr baseline), NOAA Storm Events outage uptick, per-site temperature. ## Upstream data sources - [EIA Hourly Electric Grid Monitor](https://www.eia.gov/electricity/gridmonitor/): hourly BA-level electricity demand (public domain). - [EIA Form 860 / 860M](https://www.eia.gov/electricity/data/eia860/): generator inventory. - [EIA Form 861](https://www.eia.gov/electricity/data/eia861/): utility retail rates. - [BEA Regional Economic Accounts](https://apps.bea.gov/regional/): county GDP and personal income. - [Census ACS 5-year, B25103](https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html): median property tax. - [NOAA NCEI Climate at a Glance](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/cag/): county and state temperature. - [NOAA Storm Events Database](https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/stormevents/): outage-driving event counts. - [CDC VSRR Provisional Drug Overdose Deaths](https://data.cdc.gov/d/xkb8-kh2a): state opioid uptick. - [CDC Mapping Injury, Overdose, and Violence](https://data.cdc.gov/d/fpsi-y8tj): state homicide uptick. - [OpenStreetMap](https://www.openstreetmap.org/) via Overpass: high-voltage substations. - [Redfin Data Center](https://www.redfin.com/news/data-center/): county home-price index. - [tonmcg/US_County_Level_Election_Results_08-24](https://github.com/tonmcg/US_County_Level_Election_Results_08-24): 2024 presidential margin. - Curated public coverage (press releases, FOIA filings, local zoning records) for the data-center site list itself. ## Optional - [GitHub repository](https://github.com/vxguo1/powertracker): source code, refresh workflows, raw data caches. - [docs/DATA_SOURCES.md](https://github.com/vxguo1/powertracker/blob/main/docs/DATA_SOURCES.md): the canonical engineering registry.
